The college is committed to support the student to do their best in their college life. Once student’s VISA is approved, we will invite them to attend a one hour online webinar headed by our Admissions & Academic Team members to Introduce the college and welcome you.
  • Explain what you need to prepare before, during and after your stay in the college.
  • The Do’s and Don’ts of a Student
  • Our role as a college in supporting you.
During the session we will also provide space to invite students to ask questions they have before coming to the college. In this Q&A Session our team members will dedicate themselves to answer these questions.

Dear all,

Students of the PG-February 2024 Intake at Global College Malta had an Orientation Session on February 21st from 10 a.m. to 12. p.m. It was a valuable and informative experience for the new students. They got a warm welcome from Ms. Sandra Formosa and other college staff, and then they had an informative orientation class with Dr. Pradeepa Prathapan Nair, in which the main areas were the importance of attendance policy, college policies, and guidelines, malpractice policy, the importance of hygiene in college, etc.

Some key points of the PowerPoint presentation and the main points covered are:

  1. What GCM is (that it is a management school, has 400 international students, and is in Smart City)
  2. Importance of Outlook and Moodle.
  3. How to upload the assignment on Moodle.
  4. Discussed about an assignment brief and what it looked like.
  5. Awareness of Turnitin and the Plagiarism Similarity Report.
  6. The importance of references (Harward Referencing) in assignments.
  7. Introduction of Perlego, EBSCO etc
  8. Introduction to College Website Updates (News Section).

All in all, the new students found the session to be educational, and it concluded with the students receiving some refreshments and beverages.

Invited Talk Session - PG- Organisational Behaviour & Human Resource Management

Students of PG- Organisational Behaviour & Human Resource Management at Global College Malta had an enriching session on Entrepreneurship and Family Businesses with Dr. Joseph Gerada from the Family Business Office. It was a valuable and informative experience for students where they were briefed on topics such as Growing successful family businesses, hyper-competitive business environments, Entrepreneurial Skills, Family Business Success trends, the structure of family business, etc. Some characteristics of his family business shared are:

  • Members: He explained that a group of people who are the owners and operators of the firm, as well as members of a single family, manage family businesses. It helps the students get clarity about family business structure.
  • Members’ positions: He concentrated on how family members’ roles and positions within the company are influenced by their relationships with one another.
  • Control: Since the family owns a large portion of the business, he explained how they maintain control over it.
  • Entrepreneurial skills: He makes the point that while being an entrepreneur entails launching and growing our own profitable company, those with these abilities can also succeed in family business groups.
  • Participation of Several Generations: The business is managed and operated by the family, and as a result, the reins are passed down from one generation to the next.
  • Mutual Trust: Given that all parties engaged share a common origin, set of values, and business perspective, each party must have mutual trust.

Dr Gerada also shared practical tips on:

  1. Running a successful business
  2. Real-world examples shared by Dr. Gerada
  3. Engaging in Q&A session with students

Industrial visit at Malta Freeport - For Logistics and Supply Chain students

On Jan 26,  PG-Logistics and Supply Chain Management students at Global College Malta visited the Malta Freeport. It was a valuable and informative experience for students where they were briefed on topics such as Port Services and Operations; Port Management and Governance; Shipping and International Law; and Logistics and Supply-Chain Management. Some key points discussed by Freeport authorities are:

  1. Company Set-up and Privatisation:In 1998, Malta Freeport undertook a corporate restructuring program as part of its strategy to consolidate its eminence internationally, then privatized in 2004. It helps the students to get clarity about Freeport Malta.
  2. Mission of Malta Freeport: To lead a transshipment hub in the full realization of Malta’s strategic position in the Mediterranean, thus contributing to the enhancement of the region’s nodal influence in the global trading system while sustaining its leading role in the Mediterranean transshipment trade.
  3. Vision of Malta Freeport Terminals:To focus on operational efficiency, creating a distinctive climate for innovation, and working towards sustaining flexible and reliable quality service from its personnel, the company will ensure that its customers’ expectations will be fulfilled while creating long-term shareholders’ value.
  4. Investment in Transhipment:Freeport has invested heavily in its terminals and is now in an unmatched position to attract new business, having the necessary effective capacity and the right mix of resources to entice other carriers to use its facilities for their transshipment operations. This includes legal requirements, documentation, and other necessary steps.
  5. The Waste Management Plan:Aims to control and regulate waste generation and handling at port facilities. The company is committed to reducing, as much as possible, the amount of waste generated on its premises and aims to reuse, recycle, or recover the waste generated before disposal into landfills.
  6. Legal Aspects of Transhipment:Compliance with legal regulations is fundamental for the smooth operation of Transhipment. Being aware of the legal aspects helps in avoiding potential issues and ensuring the port operates within the legal framework.
  7. GDPR Practices:In the digital age, data protection is a critical concern. Understanding General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) practices is important for ports to handle various data responsibly.
  8. Corporate social responsibility:The Freeport is committed to the progress of the community where it operates, working to conserve the environment and improve health, safety, education, culture, and leisure.
  9. Question and Answer Session:The interactive session allowed students to clarify doubts and gain deeper insights into the topics discussed, providing a more engaging and personalized learning experience.

Overall, the students left this session with a practical understanding of waste management, supply chain management, internal operations, corporate social responsibility, and logistics. Additionally, it assisted the students in learning comprehensive details on Freeport to better prepare them for their module assignments.

Global College Malta recently opened its doors to over 60 students hailing from diverse corners of the world. These students are set to embark on their academic journey, pursuing courses in Management at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The orientation event served as a guiding compass, equipping scholars with the necessary tools to navigate their new academic landscape.

During the orientation, students were introduced to the array of resources available, ensuring they’re well-equipped to make the most of their educational experience.
