This past weekend, Global College Malta warmly welcomed its new intake of students with an unforgettable cultural tour around the stunning Maltese Islands. More than just an introduction to their new home, this experience was a deep dive into the rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant traditions that define Malta.
Malta, an island nation at the crossroads of history, boasts a unique blend of influences from various civilizations, including the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, and the Knights of St John. The tour provided students with a first-hand experience of this cultural tapestry, starting in Mdina, the Silent City. Walking through its medieval streets, students were captivated by the timeless architecture, grand palaces, and panoramic views from the ancient bastions.
The journey continued to Valletta, Malta’s capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, students marvelled at the baroque beauty of St. John’s Co-Cathedral, admired the grandeur of the Grandmaster’s Palace, and soaked in the scenic views from the Upper Barrakka Gardens. The city’s lively atmosphere, bustling squares, and charming cafés made for an unforgettable experience.
No tour of Malta is complete without embracing its natural beauty. The group made their way to the Blue Grotto, where they took in the mesmerising crystal-clear waters and dramatic coastal cliffs. The tour also introduced students to Maltese traditions, including a taste of the island’s favourite snack—pastizzi. These flaky, savoury pastries were a delicious treat, offering a true flavour of local life.
Beyond the sights, this cultural tour served as a bonding experience, allowing students to connect with each other and with Malta itself. They discovered not just a place to study, but a vibrant, historically rich, and welcoming country that they will now call home.
